Carrie H. Smith 10/28/15 - 03/30/11

Brandon's Grandmother "Mamaw" or "Great Mamaw" as she was known to most of us passed away Wednesday afternoon. She was 95 years old and quite a lady. She has been living in assisted living the past several years and like most people who are there, she never stopped asking to go home. She did make some friends while she was there and saw more people than she did when she was home alone all the time. A few weeks back she had decided in the middle of the night that she was packing her stuff and leaving. On the way out of the bathroom she got disoriented, lost her balance and fell and broke her hip. She had surgery on her hip, but then developed a lot of complications with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. After several trips back and forth between the nursing home and the hospital, she had pretty much decided that she was done fighting. She has had a long life and has 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. I have heard many stories about dinner and Mamaw and Papaw's house on Sunday afternoons when Brandon was growing up. And Brandon's mom actually gave us a set of glasses that were always used at those Sunday dinners. We have already used them at one family dinner at our house. They will always be a reminder of Mamaw and the special times we had together. We will surely miss our visits with Mamaw and are content to know that she is at peace and no longer in pain or suffering. What an honor to get to know her over the past few years. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends who were able to attend her services today.
