The Best Nest

When I was a kid we had an old copy of "The Best Nest" by P. D. Eastman. It was one of those books that we read over and over again. As a preschool teacher I actually read it to my classes too. We have lots of birds around the house and I noticed that they were flying back and forth between the house and the tree out front. They kept landing on the porch light. I thought that they might be nesting there or behind the shutter. Much to my surprise, they chose to nest in my hanging impatient plant! I had to take the nest out though since it was wrapped around the plant and killing it. Plus I was a little concerned about having baby birds so close to the house. I didn't know how the mama bird would like us if we got to close. I was pretty amazed at how quickly they could build a nest. We had just hung the plants back up before we left on Thursday. Nature is a pretty amazing thing!

Don't know anyone else who is quite so happy to mow the lawn!!! We really do love having a house and a yard!
